Bennie

Bennie E. Tomberlin

As a young child growing up in Jacksonville, Florida, Bennie witnessed firsthand the power of Christ bring his dad to faith through a faithful pastor that visited the family and poured truth and love into them. After moving with his family to Callahan Florida, Bennie was invited to attend children’s choir with a little girl named Sheila. This led to his family becoming members of First Baptist Church Callahan, and his further growth in Christ. Bennie came to know Christ as a young man, making his profession of faith in 1980.

Bennie is married to the same Sheila that had providentially invited him to join her for children’s choir back in fifth grade. They have been blessed in marriage since 1988, and are the parents of three daughters, Mary Kate, Sarah Beth, and Anna Grace.

Bennie is a graduate of Baptist College of Florida obtaining a B.A. in Theology and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville Kentucky where he obtained a Master of Divinity in Missions, Evangelism, and Church Growth in 2006. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree in Biblical Spirituality with a focus on deepening the practice of prayer among men. He maintains a passion for the study of God’s word and for the discipline of prayer in daily life.

Bennie enjoys reading, watching college football (GO DAWGS!) with his family, beach vacations, and backyard beekeeping. The five most influential writers in his life have been J.I. Packer, D.A. Carson, John Stott, John Piper, and C.S. Lewis.

“I love the Lord Jesus Christ and his people. My greatest joy and privilege is to know Christ and to participate in making Him known so that lives are changed.”
